Q: Why is couples and family therapy not covered by my insurance? A: Billing insurance requires the following:
An identified patient/client.
A mental health diagnosis.
**When clients contract with me for couples and/or family therapy, the relationship or family system becomes the client, instead of the individual. Furthermore, while there is a billing code for relationships (Z63.0: "problems in the relationship"), the insurance companies I contract with will not reimburse for this code. Billing insurance for couples or family sessions is misrepresenting the nature of the services I am providing as well as the identified client system. In other words, there is a risk of engaging in fraud.
Q: Do you offer evening or weekend appointments? A: The latest time I offer appointments are at 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday. Availability is not guaranteed. Otherwise, I do not schedule appointments on weekends.
Q: What do you do for fun? A: Live music; Outdoor adventures with my partner, dogs, and friends; Travel & explore new places, Attend a yoga class or workshop.
